4 Morning Routines Of Happy People

Don’t we all want to feel happy in the morning? I’ve never been much of a morning person. The afternoon and night are just so much better to me! In order to start enjoying the morning time more, I’ve been trying some new routines to make the morning more tolerable. I’m recommending four routine changes because I’ve found these four to be manageable for daily use. Feel free to add or swap any of these habits for another one that works best for you.

I encourage you to try these four habits for a couple weeks and see if you notice any mood changes. These changes will be most effective if you’re getting adequate sleep every night. I strive to fall asleep and wake up at the same time every night excluding weekends. During the weekend, I typically stay up later, however I do sleep for the same amount of hours as I do on the weekdays.

1. Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up

I put a full 16oz glass of water next to my bed before I go to sleep. Our body consists of more than 50% of water. After 6 or more hours without water, our body needs to be hydrated to keep working properly. Drinking water helps release toxins in the body.

Eliminating toxins keeps your skin glowing, boosts your immune system, and jump starts your metabolism. One of the main factors of tiredness is actually dehydration. Go ahead and drink your coffee or tea but make sure you have water first!

2. Express gratitude & set intentions for the day

I keep a journal and my planner next to my bed. After drinking my water, I write down three things I’m grateful for and I write about how I’m feeling/what’s on my mind. There’s something about writing down what I’m grateful for that puts me in a positive mood and reminds me that I have so much to be thankful for. Then I open my planner and write down my to do list. I always give myself three top priorities of the day, those are my non-negotiables.

3. Make up your bed

This is often the first big accomplishment of your day. Making your bed helps you feel organized and it also makes your room look neater.

Doing this will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do other tasks throughout the day. Studies show that daily bed making becomes a keystone habit, something that kick starts a chain of other good decisions throughout the day, and gives you a sense of taking charge.

4. Do 20 push-ups

After you’ve made up your bed, drop to the ground and give me 20. Yup you read that right, do 20 push ups to get your blood flowing. Push-ups provide a full-body workout. By keeping your body in a straight alignment as you lift up and down with your arms, you challenge the core muscles of your stomach, back and thighs.

If push-ups aren’t your thing, do some other type of physical activity for a couple minutes. Doing some sort of physical activity in the morning will get you energized for the day. You can even switch up what kind of exercise you do every day to keep your routine interesting.

Now go conquer the morning!
