Summer officially starts on Friday, June 21st. Therefore, it’s time to start making plans to enjoy the beautiful weather in NYC. Summer has always been my favorite season. I adore warm weather, the beach, and outdoor activities with family and friends. Also, the vibe in the city seems to be more friendly, relaxed, and happy. It’s one of the only seasons where I go into work and leave when it’s still light out, making my day feel longer and more fulfilling. It’s the season of my birthday to top it all off! So, below are six fun activities you can do this summer!

1. Go on a boat ride around the city

There’s a couple of different cruises offered in NYC. I recommend the North River Lobster Cruise at Pier 81. I recently went for my boyfriends birthday and it was fun. Good drinks, seafood and scenery of midtown for an affordable price. The only thing we weren’t fans of was the music, it just wasn’t our type of music playing. Otherwise we probably would have stayed longer on the boat.

Entry is only $10 and you have access to the boat for the day. You pay for whatever you eat and drink on the boat. Make sure to get on the first sailing of the day to get the best spot. Learn more and check out their schedule here.

2. Head to a Music Festival

What’s better than beautiful weather, drinks and great music? Music festivals are one of the best activities to people watch, meet new friends and jam to your favorite songs. Here’s three music festivals happening this summer:

The outfits you will see at this event top anything else you’ve ever seen at a music festival EVER. Afropunk always has the edgiest and most eclectic lineups of any festival in the city.  This years festival will take place August 24-August 25th in Brooklyn. This years line up includes Jill Scott, Santigold, Nao, Goldlink and many more.

A NYC outdoor concert staple with range of genres of music taking place in Central Park. This year’s festival runs from June 1 through September 24. Majority of SummerStage’s offerings are 100 percent free. Check out the lineup of events here.

The last hurrah of the summer. This megarave takes place August 30-September 1st on Randalls Island. This years line up includes Diplo, Alison Wonderland and Skrillex and many more.

3. Enjoy a rooftop

NYC rooftops in the summer are always worth the overpriced cocktail for the experience. A couple nice ones to check out are:

A beautiful rooftop bar with a rooftop garden, penthouse lounge, food and live music.

Modern Mexican cuisine with delicious cocktails and a beautiful skyline view.

A nice boutique-hotel rooftop bar with amazing views, cocktails & small bites. If you’re looking for a less crowded relaxed vibe, check out this bar.

4. Lay out on the beach

NYC is known for many things and the beach isn’t it haha. However, there are some fairly nice beaches in Queens and Long Island. As a Queens girl, I can speak to a couple beaches. I’ve seen the beaches in other boroughs and I would not recommend them. I recommend taking a trip to one of the beaches below:

5. Attend a boozy brunch

While boozy brunches don’t always come with the best brunch food in NYC. The unlimited drinks and atmosphere definitely make up for it.

Probably the most lit brunch party you’ll ever attend! Located in Brooklyn, Woodland serves tasty American style food with a Caribbean twist, the music is amazing and the drinks keep flowing. You’ll easily spend a full day brunching here. They offer unlimited drinks for $20, not including your entree. It’s also a fantastic place to celebrate your birthday.

Located in the West Village, this restaurant offers a delicious Mexican bottomless brunch for only $35. They also offer some of the strongest margaritas I’ve ever had at a brunch. Three of those and you’re set. Therefore, you’re bound to have a fun time with your friends here.

Delicious Spanish tapas with locations across the city, here you can enjoy brunch and drinks for $42. This includes all my favorite Spanish dishes like paella, croquetas, and patatas bravas plus unlimited sangría and mimosas.

6. Check out a Pop Up Shop/Street Market

A small business expo for business Divas in NYC! Held at the gorgeous and chic, The Bordone LIC on Thursday, August 8th in Long Island City, Queens. This unique networking event is specifically geared towards women business owners. The VenDivA Expo will give women entrepreneurs a platform to expand their professional relationships and clientele, while at the same time, build strong connections with the community of attendees.

And guess WHAT?! I’m going to be vending at this expo with my Finesse Fitness Water Bottles. Come support this lovely event by getting your tickets here.

A massive food festivals with 100 mouthwatering bites and beverages. Taking place every Saturday and Sunday from 11am–6pm from April through November. And on Fridays, from 11:30am – 7pm. There’s various locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, this is a must see if you’re a foodie.

The largest outdoor market in Queens running special events throughout June to October. This is another fun food festival with epic views of Manhattan and vendors selling food, drinks, antiques, art, furniture, clothing, jewelry and more. I’ll have a soft spot for this market because my brother used to vend his delicious tres leches cakes here. Check out the scheduled events here.
