How I Manage To Maintain Clear Skin

I don’t have a fancy skincare routine whatsoever! I’ve been using drugstore products for years and continue to maintain clear glowing skin. I barely wear foundation or concealer unless it’s a special occasion because I’ve never felt inclined to wear it. I do want to note that I drink TONS of water, out of my lovely Finesse Bottle of course. I also eat well and live an active healthy lifestyle, all factors that contribute to glowing skin.

Importance Of Skin Care

For those of you who don’t know much about different types of skin care products. There are cleansers, scrubs, serums, astringents, toners, facial masks, etc. I consistently use a cleanser, scrub, and toner. Cleansers can be used daily. They cleanse your face of impurities. Exfoliants/Scrubs can be used once or twice a week. They dig deep to take dead skin cells off the surface of the skin and to give your skin a glow. Toners shrink pores and restore skin to its natural pH balance.

Know Your Skin Type

It’s imperative to know your skin type in order to know what type of products to use. There are many skin types including normal, combination, oily, dry and sensitive. My skin type is combination. Meaning parts of my skin are more oily than others.

Clean & Clear Products Are My Go To

I’ve been using Clean & Clear products since I had my first blemish around 12 or 13 years old. I’m probably one of few people who found a skincare routine that has worked since they were a pre-teen. Over the years, I’ve tried other products like Neutrogena, Bioré, pricey Sephora products etc. but nothing has worked like my Clean & Clear products.

My friends still joke that I’m one of the only people that no matter how late I’m out—I make time to remove my makeup and wash my face. I am consistent and deliberate about my skincare routine. Even when I go on vacation, I make sure to put my products in travel sized bottles, so my skin doesn’t get all out of whack.

Products I Use:

1. Morning Burst Facial Cleanser  ($4.97)

Every morning I use this facial cleanser. It is a foaming cleanser formulated with bursting beads, vitamins and and a blend of fruit extracts to clean deep while refreshing skin. The formula contains an invigorating fragrance that they say helps wake you up. I’ve been using this for so long that I’m convinced it does make me feel awake but it could all be in my head. Anyways, I love that this product is made with water, not oil, so it doesn’t clog your pores. This product seems wonderful and aids on helping me feel ready to conquer the day.

I first wet my face with warm or cold water. Next, I gently massage a nickel sized amount of the cleanser on my face, avoiding my eye area. I like to let it sit while I wash the rest of my body. I’m not entirely sure it makes a difference how long you leave it on. However, I like to leave it on because it feels like it allows the product to get deep into my pores. Then I gently rinse with a washcloth and PAT dry my face. I repeat this every morning. Next I apply my moisturizer. I typically use Aveeno or African Shea Butter.

2. Night Relaxing Deep Cleansing Face Wash ($4.97)

Every night I use this cleanser. With deep sea minerals and sea kelp extract, this purifying cleanser cleans deep to effectively wash away daily build-up like dirt, oil and impurities deep in pores. I love using this at the end of the day because it makes me feel relaxed, ready to wind down for the night. I’m not sure if there’s something relaxing in the product or if it’s the sea fragrance that makes me feel so darn calm. This product smells good and it’s super lightweight.

Similar to how I wash my face in the morning, I first wet my face with warm water. Next, I gently massage a nickel sized amount of the cleanser on my face, avoiding my eye area. I let it sit while I wash the rest of my body. Then I gently rinse with a washcloth and PAT dry my face. I repeat this every night. I also don’t believe in sleeping with a moisturizer on my face. In my experience, sleeping with a moisturizer on my face leads to an oily face in the morning. Thus, I sleep with my fresh clean face.

3. Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub ($4.97)

One night a week, I use this exfoliant. This scrub cleans deep down to my pores. With exfoliating beads to smooth skin, this cooling formula reaches deep into the pores to dissolve dirt, dead skin, oil and even makeup. Completely oil-free, rinses clean, and makes me feel refreshed. This is designed to exfoliate your skin with natural micro-scrubbers.

I always wet my face first then gently massage the scrub over my face. I typically spend more time rubbing the scrub on my face then I do my cleansers. It’s a thicker product and I like to rub it on my face in a circular motion giving myself a little facial massage. I like to remove it with a hot steamy wash cloth. Then I pat dry.

4. Essentials Deep Cleaning Toner ($4.49)

This toner treats and helps prevent pimples. On already washed clean skin, I apply this product before bed. I moisten a cotton ball with the toner and cover the entire affected area with a thin layer of the product. You can use this as needed but I’ve found i only need to use it once before bed, otherwise it dries out my skin. I used to use this product daily. But now I only use this product when I have a pimple.

Occasionally, I enjoy getting a professional facial done but I’ve found that my regimen works perfectly for me without needing any extra frills. None of these products will work in a day, it takes weeks to see if a product is working for you.  I hope that these tips help you maintain your beautiful skin too.
